I never considered myself an artist until one of my mentors told me that to any Chef, that plate is like a canvas, your masterpiece. Later on I learned that the famous chef Ferran Adria –Chef at the number one restaurant in the world: El Buli, -until he closed it a couple of years ago - approached plating of his food in the same manner. For any serious chef that plate becomes a canvas. There is no better comment than when a customer says that they don’t want to eat their food because it looks stunning, and if you have obtained all the flavors you wanted in that dish, it’s a beautiful thing.
Cooking for me is more than a passion, it’s an exploration, it’s the search for that perfect marriage of the ingredients. In the kitchen you are a chemist, an inventor, an explorer. That exciting feeling when you discover that combining ingredient A with ingredient B will create such pleasure for you, your loved ones, and your customers is incomparable. Make no mistake, cooking is all about pleasure, food is all about pleasure. Any woman will tell you that when a man knows how to cook, he is getting the date, and any man will tell you that when a girl is a master in the kitchen she will be the master of the house. Someone very wise once said: “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”
